Awareness + Wisdom

One participant who joined one of our courses shared a message that speaks for many, “I have been searching for the missing piece in my meditation for many years", and with WISE many have found the answer to that missing piece. Unlike mainstream mindfulness traditions, at WISE, our main teachers Hor Tuck Loon and Chan Lai Fun, who have been guiding meditation for the past 30 years, draw parallels from many ancient wisdom teachings and also from their years of experience in the journey of Insight Meditation, particularly from Sayadaw U Tejaniya. While most meditation teachers emphasize sitting or walking meditation, Tuck Loon and Lai Fun offer a unique style of pointing and sharing that provokes reflection and discussion. Their pointing is not to attain some far-off goal of liberation or to experience states of special consciousness. Rather, their aim is to help you realize what wise mystics across all traditions have realized universally: the indisputable true nature of reality, or the understanding that brings freedom and happiness.

To cultivate the stability of mind takes awareness — training the mind to consistently pay attention to the realities of the present moment; and wisdom — the understanding that there is only this present moment to be experienced: whatever arises will pass away, and whatever has happened, happened. It could not have been otherwise. Rather than judging our experiences and fighting with what is, which creates stress and dissatisfaction, we can train our minds to learn from our experience with awareness and wisdom. By making silently listening and watching a way of life, we slowly unfold conditionings. And with understanding ripening, there’s nothing to fear nor get rid of. There’s nothing you have to get that you don’t have. From this position of wisdom, life becomes more meaningful and more stable, and happiness flows naturally.

Cultivation of awareness and wisdom through direct experience and exploration of the mindscape is the main theme of WISE's programs and retreats. Here you will receive pointing and sharing from many different angles of right view and right practice which cut across different traditions and faiths and direct participants to develop consistent awareness and understanding as a way of life. In order to change the direction in how you see yourself and the world, we invite you to go ‘inwards’.
