What does one mean when one says that “it is just your point of view?” Obviously, the one who said that has his or her own point of view too. But truly, where does this conversation really lead to?
Do you notice, everything that you can ever experience, in any of the sense doors, is being experienced according to your point of view? More precisely, it is the mind’s point of view. The world has no more meaning when there is no point of view coming to meet it.
Lots of ideas are formed in our minds moment to moment, ever since we came into this world and they slowly become our views. Along the way, those ideas are either discarded to be replaced by new ones or reinforced when the ideas confirm what we know or don’t know. The ideas come from our parents or guardians, our siblings, through our education and then working environment, other life experiences and even our religion. All these ideas become our operating views influencing/directing how we experience or interact with the world, and also ourselves.
Strictly speaking, we can’t really know what views another person truly holds even though they may subscribe to what we experience or act against us. Our views make us experience another. As such, we can only know our own views and not that of another – ie. where they are coming from when they agree or oppose us. If we seem to know where they are coming from, it is because that view is familiar to us, and that is actually our own view.
But more importantly, there are views which make us experience distress and also views which bring us joy. Which directly means that the happening that each of us has to experience does not determine our experience, except our views about it. Our view is what we have to pay attention to, not what is taking place which each of us has to face day to day. What is taking place has their own causes. We can't really change that very much. Truly. Instead, our views is what we have to be concerned with since they are what make up our experience of the world. Views lead you.
Here is a food for thoughts: Views make you. "You" is not a "self" but a realtime streaming of views meeting each "now". If you think there is really a "person", that's a view too!
